Seattle Area Technology Oriented Companies

Some interesting companies around the Seattle region. Recently a friend of mine and I were chatting about companies in the Seattle region in regard to technology and the economic impact that it has had. Now keep in mind, I never touched a computer until I was a sophomore in college. It was the amazing apple computer that you had to put the 5 ½ floppy disk in to use and then turn it over in the middle of doing word processing, etc. No saving to a “cloud” or using a flash drive to run between computers and certainly no looking at documents on your smart phone! In fact the subject of phone will remain buried with the 4 pound bag phones that had a battery life of say 1 ½ hours ok?  Given the discussion, I thought I would go pull some of the companies and the impact economically in the region. Now, I am sure these numbers may be off a bit since the source that I was looking them up on is a crowd sourced database. Add to that, some companies may have been missed since they are new or are currently in stealth mode (my other hat’s one of them) and do not make the database yet. Regardless, the list is staggering. I am going to make the uneducated guess and say…Seattle region is definitely pulling it’s weight with companies that are engaged in some form or fashion of a technology based enterprise. I like startups. In fact I like’em a lot! They give me a sense of pride and a sense of doing something inherently unique to set the path that one day may turn out to be the next MicroSoft or Amazon, etc. Think about this… Expedia is a rather large company. It’s a spin off from MicroSoft! Wouldn’t that be so amazing to have another company spun out and be to the size that they are and have become? Its simply amazing, but only one of a number of such companies in our area!
